For six decades, Homecoming was a five-day sprint. Show up Wednesday for LobsterFest, dodge the crowd on Cabot, catch the fireworks Sunday, and it was over before your out-of-town cousin unpacked. This year the whole thing has been stretched across two weekends and the twelve days in between, and if you plan it the old way you will miss half of it.

Beverly Homecoming runs Sunday, July 26 through Sunday, August 9, 2026. The reason for the expansion is not scheduling ambition. It is that the city is folding Homecoming into the Beverly 400+ observance for the 400th anniversary of the town's settlement, which means the traditional anchors are still here and a lot of new middle-of-the-week programming has been layered on top.

What actually changed

The organization has been open about the shift. President Medley Long III and the Homecoming board expanded from a five-day schedule to a 15-day community celebration for 2026, with live music, family movies, lawn games, a road race, and a wide slate of neighborhood events spread across the city.

The practical effect for residents:

• Two weekends carry the anchors. The opening weekend (July 26 to 27) sets the tone. The closing weekend (August 8 to 9) carries the fireworks and the biggest crowds.
• Weekdays are no longer filler. In prior years, the Monday and Tuesday between LobsterFest and fireworks were quiet. This year they hold programming worth showing up for.
• You can pace it. A one-day plan used to mean choosing between LobsterFest and fireworks. Fifteen days means those two events sit on different weekends and no longer compete for the same Saturday.

If you have kids in a Bev Rec camp, this matters more than usual. The Lip Sync Extravaganza at Lynch Park, where every park and camp displays a dance and music routine, is a Homecoming fixture, and ACME SR is coming in as the defending Grand Prize holder. It is worth building your camp pickup around.

The events that make the calendar

Rather than list all 15 days, here are the anchors residents plan around, based on the 2026 program and returning favorites from prior years:

The Lobsterfest costume contest is technically open to all ages, but the organizers have made clear that adults are not going to win it.

The concert series is the real hidden asset

Overlapping Homecoming, and starting well before it, is the free Beverly Recreation Summer Concert Series. This runs through August 14 and is sponsored by Homecoming with additional presenting support from Citizens. Shows are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at the Lynch Park shell, and Thursday nights at the Beverly Commons Gazebo.

A few 2026 bookings worth flagging:

• Nick Consone opened the season at Lynch Park in early July. Local singer-songwriter, blues and roots.
• 4EverFab, New England's Beatles tribute, is in its 14th consecutive season at Lynch.
• Thinkology at the Commons Gazebo describes itself as "spaceship music, dandy funk, and government jazz." Believe them or don't, they play a wide North Shore circuit.
• Nate Perry & Ragged Company, an Americana-alt-rock group fronted by an Army veteran, has played Boston Calling and is booked into the summer slate.
• Horizon and the Horns closes Homecoming at the Lynch shell before the fireworks. This has become tradition.
• The Reminisants open LobsterFest. The Bordellos have played the closing Sunday in recent years.

The concert schedule is the piece most out-of-town coverage misses. If you live here, you can build an entire week of free live music without ever paying for parking, since the free lots are open on concert nights.

What is new in town for Homecoming week

Homecoming has always been about food as much as programming, and the downtown food scene has shifted meaningfully in the last twelve months. If your family hosts visitors during the festival, a few options exist that did not last year:

Daniella's on Cabot opened in December 2025 at 252 Cabot Street in the former Ellis Square Social space. Owner Daniella Mammola is running it under the North Shore Hospitality Group umbrella, with a menu built around Italian classics, seafood, steak, and a family-style Sunday Supper.

Qué Mas Beverly Kitchen occupies 114 Rantoul Street in the former Frank space. The chef is Alex Pineda, a Chopped finalist and the son of Scampo's Lydia Shire. The kitchen leans modern Latin, with influences pulled from Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, and Peru.

Mission Boathouse on Beverly Pier gives you a waterfront patio over Beverly Marina, with a New American and Latin-inspired menu and sushi. This is the answer when visitors ask for a sunset view.

Big Chicken, the Shaquille O'Neal franchise, opened at 55 Dodge Street on June 29, 2026. It replaces the previous Northshore Mall location that closed nine months earlier, and it is easy access from the Route 128 side of town.

Sea Dog Brewing is under construction at 203 Cabot Street in the former El Jefe Taco Bar space. It will seat over 300 across indoor, outdoor, and event space. No opening date has been announced, so treat it as fall.

Combined with steady mainstays like Mercy Tavern, Soma, and the Beverly Depot, the downtown corridor has more capacity this Homecoming than any in recent memory, which matters when 200,000 people are visiting Lynch Park across two weekends.

The Fringe and Arts Fest orbit

Homecoming is not the only downtown cultural event this year. The new Beverly Fringe festival, launched in June, is an open-access performance festival modeled on Edinburgh's, involving Montserrat College of Art, The Cabot, The Larcom, Off-Cabot, Chianti Jazz Lounge, and independent galleries on Cabot and Rantoul. Programming spans small-cast theater, dance, puppetry, spoken word, comedy, film, and installation work. If any Fringe programming lingers into the Homecoming window, it will be centered on those venues.

Arts Fest Beverly, the juried outdoor festival that shuts down Cabot Street with more than 125 artists, already ran on June 20 this year, but it is worth marking on the calendar for 2027 planning.

Practical notes for residents

A few things that catch people off guard every year:

• Lynch Park parking. Non-Beverly residents pay $15 weekdays and $25 weekends. Beverly residents with a beach sticker do not. On LobsterFest day, the fee is waived for everyone.
• Fireworks night. The show launches from Mackerel Cove. Lynch Park is the biggest viewing area but far from the only one. The stretch along West Beach, Woodbury Point, and the Independence Park side of the harbor all give you a look.
• Traffic on Ober Street. Do not attempt it after 5 p.m. on LobsterFest or fireworks nights. Park on the Hale Street side and walk in.
• Rain plan. LobsterFest is rain or shine. Fireworks have been rescheduled for weather in past years, so watch the Homecoming Instagram the afternoon of the show.

Fifteen days is a lot of Beverly. The best move is to pick two anchor events, block them off, and let the rest of the week reveal itself. Homecoming has always rewarded people who show up more than once.
